  • Millfield School (Street)


    In the summer holidays we were instructed by C G Fry & Son to carry out the refurbishment of the Biology block 1st floor. We had to work very closely with other trades on site to meet the tight timeline but still finish the project to the highest standards. All trades on site finished on time and Millfield School had nothing but praise for everyone involved. As a result of this job Millfield invited us to be one of 3 main contractors for them, something we are very pleased and proud about.

  • NUMATIIC INTERNATIONAL BUILDING 25, NEW COMMERCIAL BUILDING WITH 2 STOREY OFFICE BLOCK, £5 MILLION PROJECT.


    We are extremely pleased to announce we have won the contract on the new Numatic International Building 25 project. We will be working alongside RG Spiller who are a highly reputable construction company. 


    We have desinged the complete electrical project from start to finish, leasing with Numatic to get the layout they require. This includes the 5000m2 warehouse, the 2 storey office block and all the outside power and lighting.


    Work has now began on this project and we will keep you updated on our progress!

  • NEW LA TASCA RESTAURANT, BARCLAYCARD CENTRE, BIRMINGHAM NIA.


    La Tasca, Birmingham, was a project which was completed over 8 weeks from start to finish, with the full electrical installation being carried out. Working alongside Interiors UK the project was managed very professionally and handed over on time.


    We were extremely happy with the finished product and had glowing reviews from Interiors UK and La Tasca.

  • EAST STABLES OFFICE BLOCK, SHERBORNE CASTLE, SOMERSET.


    We are happy to announce work has begun at East Stables, Sherborne Castle. We will keep you updated with our progress!


    Work is progressing well, with the first fix wiring and galv conduits drops on the ground floor being carried out. Basket containment for wiring on the first floor is now complete which allows first fix wiring to commence.

  • EMERGENCY LIGHTING INSTALLATION AND UPGRADES AT NUMATIC INTERNATIONAL, CHARD.


    Numatic International of Chard, Somserset, called us in to survey a problem they had with their emergency lighting. It was clear from the start that there was work to be done. We carried out a lighting level survey of the buildings and made a plan of where we were going to go with the project.


    We replaced light fittings at high and low level as well as installing new fittings where required. Working at height and in and around people we had to be careful with the amount of workers inside Numatic. We worked alongside the staff and they were extremely happy with the way we carried out our work, careful, neat and efficient.

  • 3 STOREY OFFICE BLOCK CONVERSION TO 12 FLATS IN YEOVIL, SOMERSET.


    We were given the job to convert a 3 storey office block in the middle of yeovil to 12 moderen flats. The flats vary in size but each had to be seperated and new supplys installed. The customer was extememly impressed with the workmanship and progress that was carried out by ourselves.


    Into the flats we installed new circuits throughout as well as rewiring the lift and communal areas. A new fire alarm system was installed and commisioned throughout by ourseleves as was a new satellite and aerial system.


  • METAL TECH PRECISION SHOP FLOOR LIGHTING


    We were enlisted with the challenge of upgrading the factory shop floor lighting, the shop floor is over 40,000sqft and up to 18meters high, and houses over 50 large cnc machines.


    The existing lighting system was old constantly failing, and providing them with insufficient lux levels for their increasingly complex and production.


    Metaltech wanted a system which was easy to maintain and operate, but which also saved them money on running costs.


    This project had to be achieved with out any disturbance to the working environment or production, including the night shift which relied solely on lighting to operate!


    After a site meeting and a demonstration of different products, Metaltech decided to go with HL T5 fluorecent fittings with intelligent photo cell dimming and proximity control.


    This highly efficent energy saving fitting ran over the same period of time as their original 400w metal halide fittings and would provide them with over a 50% saving on their lighting running costs.


    As well as the 50% saving, the intelligent controls on each individual fitting will control the amount of light admitted, insuring only the minimum amount of power is provided to achieve the desired lux levels.


    Photocell dimming allows the fitting to adjust to the disired lux level, by dimming down or brightening to mix with natural light in the room, this constantly maintains the required lux and saves money by reducing power.


    Proximity control insures that fittings do not light an unpopulated area longer than necessary, then dimming down after presence is not detected for 5 minutes. Afurther finally switching off after a further 5 minutes, only to return to full brightness on presence of return.


    With this system we are able to achieve an overall saving of between 70%-85% running cost, this saving would cover the cost for the complete system within 2 years.


    For the installation we set out a lighting plan which would provide even light over the 40,000sqft floor space. We calculated 126 fittings in all. A reduction to the original light installation but we were confident, as our uniform design would light the whole area.


    To keep the factory lit during the installation was essential, this was achived by installing the whole system along side the existing one. We did this by using clik bases and getting the system live before installing any fittings, we were then able to change the lights one by one. Therefore there was no loss of light or production to the company.


    THE END RESULT: A clean and tidy installation, which is easy to maintain and operate. Improved lighting levels of over 250 lux with no blind spots throughout the shop floor. and on top of that a massive 85% saving on running cost. not to mention the saving on maintaince.                                                 


         




     

  • NEW 400 AMP MAINS SUPPLY AND PANEL BOARD CHANGE 


    As Metaltech Precision Ltd were getting solar panels fitted on the roof, we were called in to design and install a new system capable of coping with the new demands. We designed and installed a new main isolator as well as the containment for the large overhead cabling. The new supply installed was a 400 amp supply over 80 metres with a main isolator to a panel board.


    The work was carried out over a weekend as the factory had to be shut down with minimum disruption. Work began at 6 oclock friday night and was complete and tested by sunday afternoon, ready for monday mornings shift. Another happy customer!

  • UPGRADING OF CABLE MANAGEMENT


    At Metaltech Precision Engineering we carried out upgrades throughout the factory. This case study shows us upgrading the cable management and also the cable and air lines that feed 5 CNC machines from Busbar trunking.


    We used 41x41 uni strut for the frame and uni strut brackets welded to build the frame. As the runs were long and the combined weight of the basket and SWA cable was heavy we had to use M8 threaded bar suspended from the ceiling to prevent the uni strut from bowing. Basket was fixed to the uni strut using M8 zebs and the manufactures recommended fixings.


    Once the uni strut and basket were fitted we then communicated with the CNC machine operators to organise a suitable time to turn the machines off, then the supply cables could be disconnected, rerouted and then reconnected again.

  • FAULT ON A 3 PHASE DISTRIBUTION BOARD


    We were called to a factory with reports that some machines had lost power and there was a burning smell coming from the direction of the fuseboard that the machines were fed from.


    On arrival we assessed the fuseboard and found that it had seriously overheated as demostrated in the picture. There are various reasons this could occur but the most common is that the terminal on either the input or output of an MCB is loose which creates arcing and arcing creates extreme heat which damages the equipment and in the worst case it results in a fire. It was quickly established that a new fuse board was needed and this was installed with minimum interference.


    This could have been prevented if a thermal monitoring test had been taken on all electrical equipment. This is a simple procedure where by using a thermal imaging camera the contractor would find areas that have high heat outputs. The contractor would then access the area and find the cause for the heat. Eco Electrix provide this service and advise our customers to undertake a yearly test.

  • REWIRE OF INDUSTRIAL UNIT


    M-CNC - Refit of industrial unit. M-CNC is a precision engineering company based in Bridgewater, Somerset. M-CNC was totally stripped out and rewired as an industrial unit.


    On the factory floor area we fitted T5 energy efficient lighting with daylight dimming and proximity controls. We also fitted 250 amp 3 phase busbar trunking down each side of the building for the cnc machines and other items this can then be easily tapped into.


    A two story office was built at the front of the building which needed updating so we used CAT2 T5 fluorescent fittings for the lighting and dado trunking to carry the 13 amp power and data points throughout the office.  


    The building was fitted with a fire alarm and intruder alarm throughout the factory floor and office space.
